Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

What can I expect at the first session?

In our first session (or two), we’ll discuss what has brought you to therapy. I’ll ask questions to gather information about the issues, how they impact your life and what you hope to gain from therapy. I might ask you to complete some questionnaires to help me understand what is going on for you. From there, we’ll make a plan for our work together including the therapeutic approach, roughly how many sessions we’ll need and ideas for how we’ll know if therapy is ‘working’. We will continue to review this plan as we work together to check it still fits and make any changes needed.

How long do sessions last?

Every therapy session is 50 mins long.

What is a psychodiagnostic assessment?

Not everyone who comes for therapy needs a Psychodiagnostic assessment. Psychodiagnostic assessments is a specific piece of work that helps you understand your mental health and identify treatment options. These generally require 2-4 sessions.

What does a psychotherapy session with a psychologist cost?

Sessions are billed at the rate recommended by the British Columbia Psychological Association (BCPA). As of May 15, 2025, BCPA increased the suggested rate to $245 per 50-minute session.

Are your appointments covered under my extended health plan?

As each health plan is different, I would recommend you check with your insurance carrier regarding coverage for registered psychologists. At this time, I cannot offer direct billing but I can provide an invoice for reimbursement.

How often should I be meeting with you?

I typically meet with patients once every 2-4 weeks. I find this frequency to be the best balance for giving patients the opportunity to practice skills and process what was discussed during the appointment.

Do you offer online or phone appointments?

Yes, I am able to work with people across BC through video or telephone sessions.

Can you refill my prescription?

This is a common question I receive from patients. As a psychologist, I am unable to provide prescriptions or refills. I would recommend contacting your family physician, psychiatrist, and/or pharmacist for medication-related questions and needs.

Are appointments covered by MSP?

MSP does not cover appointments with registered psychologists practicing privately.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends. The number of sessions will vary depending on the required treatment approach and time needed.

How do I pay?

The fee for treatment is $245 per 50 min session. Payment can be made at the end of your session. Advance payment is also available for virtual and telephone therapy sessions. We accept all major credit and debit cards, e-transfer, direct bank transfer, cash, and cheques.

What is the cancellation / no-show policy?

I request 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Cancellations made prior to this window will be rescheduled with no penalty. No-shows or cancellations made without 24 hours’ notice incur a fee equivalent to half a session (i.e., $122.50).
